Provincial Environmental Management Unit Officer Joyce Ann Mangsat lectured APH employees on proper waste segregation to minimize garbage at the Abra Provincial Hospital on June 7, 2019, in coordination with the Provincial Government of Abra headed by Gov. Joy Bernos.
She emphasized that it is better to start waste segregation at home by keeping separate containers or garbage bags for biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. It can also encourage family members and neighbors to do the same.
Mangsat advised them not to burn their garbage for it causes soil, air, and water pollution.
“We can recycle waste and reuse it, rather than burn it,” she said.
Mangsat explained that the smoke from the burning waste has serious effects on our environment. It puts pollutants like carbon dioxide, mercury, and acid into the atmosphere, damaging the environment and cause respiratory diseases.
Practicing waste segregation and recycling at home and at work are the best ways to minimize the garbage, she said.
