Abra Provincial Jail (APJ) inmates were able to exhibit their handmade products made out of plastic bottles for the first time through the Dapil Festival Trade Fair 2019 at Capitol compound.

“Ubra ni Kosa” features the plastic flower decorations ranging from P80 to P1,000 depending on sizes and designs.

APJ Warden Julie Anne N. Bello said they sold 69 items out of the 84 displayed on the first day of the trade fair on February 19, 2019. The proceeds are given to the inmates who made the products.

Bello said handicraft is a part of inmates’ rehabilitation. This helps them gain income, uplift their confidence, and motivate them to do better in life. It is a way to overcome their boredom behind bars, she added.

APJ is collecting plastic bottles from stores and is also accepting bottles from donations.
