The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples-Abra, headed by Provincial Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Romero Daoaten, conducted the first IPMRs Summit in the province in celebration of the 21st IP Month yesterday, October 24,2018.

The summit which was attended by IPMRs, tackled issues concerning the welfare of the IP community in the province.

According to Provincial Officer Genesis Quiblado, Abra has the most number of IPMRs in the whole Cordillera with 98 in total; 78 from barangays, 20 from the municipal, and 1 provincial IPMR.

During the summit, a building constructed in Barangay Calaba, Bangued, was presented to the IPMRs. The building named as Tingguian Building was erected way back 2006 under the former provincial IPMR Cesario Barona. The building will serve as the house of all IPs throughout the province.

Another agenda introduced is the conduct of Tingguian Festival where there will be a unification of all the Tingguian community in Abra.

Charles Domasi, Atty. IV of NCIP informs the IPMRs on the new rules and regulation governing NCIP in settling cases such as the use of customary laws.
