The Commission on Population (PopCom) in partnership with the Provincial Government of Abra headed by Gov. Joy Bernos are geared to serve more couples and individuals in Abra with their family planning services.
PopCom Regional Director Magdalena G. Abellera thanked the 117 Barangay Captains and volunteers for their participation in the National Program on Population and Family Planning during the PopCom Stakeholders Meeting at the Provincial Social Hall on January 28, 2020. The family planning services reduce unintended pregnancies for healthier families and avoid teenage pregnancies.
With the help of the barangay population volunteers, 1,321 couples and individuals in Abra were provided with free hormonal, implant, and surgical family planning services.
12,651 couples were also oriented on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning.
In Abra, PopCom-CAR started to implement National Program for Population and Family Planning on September 11, 2019, where they conducted a series of Family Planning Caravans in Bucay, Bangued, Lagangilang, San Juan, and Tayum. 218 individuals were provided with free contraceptives, where 126 of which underwent Progestin subdermal implant.
After the information campaign, barangay population volunteers were established to reach the different barangays. These volunteers conduct orientations, counseling, and assessment on family planning methods and referral to RHUs. 4,781 individuals were listed under “Unmet needs” or couples and women who want to limit or space their children but are not using any modern method of contraception.
