To boost skills on basic life support and first aid, the 19 barangay health workers (BHWs) undergo training at the Abra Provincial Capitol Social Hall on December 2-3, 2019.

The training was conducted by Red Cross- Abra chapter and attended by the BHWs from the different municipalities of Abra.

Chapter Service Representative Jasper Banguisan said that presence of a first aider in every barangay is very crucial in saving lives. According to him, they are training these health workers to be the first responders in emergency situations. 

The trainees were given pointers on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bandaging and proper lifting & transferring of patients.

Baguisan encouraged BHWs and even barangay officials to attend training programs such this one to ensure safety in their barangay.  

Liguis, La Paz BHW Irene Balino Bragas said her knowledge about first aid made her confident to help someone in case of emergency. According to her, she already experienced helping a victim of fall in their barangay. With the help of the other residence, they successfully transferred the patient to a hospital in Bangued.  

Certificates are given to the trainees after the two days of training which means they are certified first aider.
