Taekwondo athletes John Paul Bernardez and Mharvey Joshua Bernardez, mechanical engineering students of Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) got 2 gold medals in the CARASUC 2019. John Paul fought in the flyweight category while Mharvey Joshua in the welterweight category.
“It is their first time to join in such competition as they are new to this game,” Coach Glen Buenafe said. He added, they were just promoted from white to yellow belt just two months ago.
Next year, the Bernardezes will join National Schools Colleges Universities Athletics Association (NSCUAA) which will be held in Naga City.
Meanwhile, their teammates Jayree Bustamante got a silver medal in the featherweight category and Gwyneth Beza got bronze medal in the welterweight category.
ASIST ranked third in the overall result in taekwondo competition.
