As dry season starts, illnesses and diseases also arises. Dr. Anton Valera of the Provincial Health Office cited some common illnesses and preventive measures this dry season.

Common illnesses during dry season are heatstroke, hypertension, outbreak of measles, dengue, and diarrhea.

Valera also shared tips to prevent these illnesses. To prevent heat stroke and hypertension, drink more water and avoid staying too long under the sun. For diarrhea, Valera is advising every Abreños to make sure that what they are eating is clean.

Valera also stressed that measles is also one of the problems during this season because it is an air borne disease. He said that the Provincial Health Office is conducting vaccinations for children ages 6 months up to 12 years old in schools. Valera said that they are already coordinating with the Department of Education to give them time to meet the target for the school based immunization.

Valera also said that after the school based immunization, they will also immunize adults as well as those living in measles hotspots.

Valera also urged the parents to have their children immunized to protect them from illnesses. He said that Abreños must follow the advice of the Department of Health and health personnel to prevent these diseases from becoming worse.

He said that every individual with illness should consult the doctor when not feeling well. Valera said that the Provincial Government of Abra headed by Gov. Joy Bernos has these health programs the Abreños can avail through the Provincial Health Office.
