Young Abreños won first place in two different categories in the recently concluded 2018 Division Science and Math festival with the theme “Science and Math for the People; Innovation for collective Prosperity” on November 21-22 in Bontoc, Mt. Province.

In the Secondary Life Science Team Category, team Abra was awarded first place in “Antiagiogenic Activity of Oregano Leaf Extract in-vivo Through Chick Chorioallantoic Membrane Assay” presented by Jhanelle Paderes, Jeshaniah Bringas, and Rona Claire Azarcon. All of them are students of Abra High School coached by Renato Bernardez.

Meljon R. Viste, another student from Abra High School, won first place in the individual category. Meljon presented “Kinematic Capabilities of Innovative Line Follower Robots using EV3 Control” under the supervision of Jephuneh Gasmen.

For Elementary Team Category, pupils from Tayum Central School won third place for their work “Potential Use of Beeswax as Base for Homemade Lipstick”. They were Ana Marie H. Tigrado, Princess Atheena V. Leones, and Daenee Ann B. Tumalip.

Meanwhile, Tayum District Elementary teacher, Michelle Bugtong ranked second place in the search for the Best Science Teacher.  

Overall, team Abra ranked third in the Science Competition while ranking sixth in the Mathematics competition.
