Bangued is the first LGU in Abra that established one Barangay Sanitary Inspector (BSI) per barangay tasked to work on raising health and sanitation standards in their areas. These 31 BSIs were trained since October 2018 and are now performing the functions of a sanitary inspector in their respective barangays.

Municipal Sanitary Inspector Christine Go re-oriented them on their duties and responsibilities to prevent food and water borne-diseases during their three-day seminar and workshop on November 11-13, 2019, at the Bangued Municipal Social Hall.

On the third day of the workshop, DOH-CAR Sanitary Head Inspector Nelson Cara joined the inspection of business establishments and food handlers to evaluate their knowledge on actual inspection and reporting.

The BSIs were also tasked to monitor piggeries and other livestock facilities in their barangays. They  need to check that all families and houses have sanitary toilets and also conduct sanitation awareness to residents.
