Provincial Health Officer Maria Cristina V. Cabrera calls on the mayors to enforce dengue prevention and control during the consultative meeting on dengue at the Provincial Capitol on July 8, 2019.

She said there is an increasing number of dengue cases in the province and mayors should intensify anti-dengue measures to prevent an outbreak in their municipalities.

The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit has recorded 376 dengue cases from January to June, 2019.

Boliney with 57 dengue cases is under the red (epidemic) category. Other municipalities affected were Bucay with 25 cases, La Paz with 19 cases, Lagangilang with 26 cases, Luba with 41 cases, Manabo with 13 cases, and Tubo with 18 cases.

PHO has conducted space spraying, awareness campaigns, search and destroy of breeding sites, and distribution of mosquito nets to prevent the spread of dengue in these areas.

Cabrera said the support of the mayors is needed to sustain these measures in the municipalities and barangays.

The community is instructed to maintain the cleanliness to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
