As the Fire Prevention Month concluded on March 31, 2019, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Abra) headed by Provincial Fire Marshal Alex Testado advised Abreños to continuously observe fire safety in their daily lives.

Testado said that fire prevention is everybody’s job and everyone’s duty.

With this year’s theme “Ligtas na Pilipinas Ating Kamtin, Bawat Pamilya ay Sanayin, Kaalaman sa Sunog ay Palawakin,” the activities centered on fire safety awareness in the barangays.

Workshops for the Community Fire Protection Plan and organization of Fire Auxiliary Group were carried out during the month-long observation. Activities such as fire truck visibility, distribution of flyers, and media engagements for information dissemination were also conducted.

For the Open house, fire stations in the province were opened to the public. Visitors were given a tour around the station  familiarizing them with BFP equipment and even using them in simulated firefighting. Visitors were also taught the basics of first aid.

With the desire to establish fire prevention initiatives at the grassroots level, BFP created Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan to cope with the growing demand for a more adaptive, comprehensive, and immersive fire protection program in communities.

Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan is a series of interconnected activities focused on providing barangays with systematic methodologies and tactical procedures to prevent and respond to fires. Thus BFP believes that empowering Abreños to be proactive and resilient in fire-safety will improve their quality of life.

Testado is also advising everyone this summer to make sure that their homes are fire safe before leaving.

He also ended his talk with a reminder from BFP “Sa iyong kapabayaan madalas nagmumula ang iyong kapahamakan.”
