In celebration of the National Dental Health Month, the Provincial Government of Abra (PGA) headed by Gov. Joy Bernos through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Dental Department with the Abra Dental Chapter organized activities for the National Dental Health Month in the province.

Among PHO Dental Department’s goals are to encourage people to be more dental conscious and reduce the prevalence of dental caries in children and pregnant women; to educate on the importance of preventive care like brushing, flossing, and avoiding drinks high on sugar; and rendering immediate relief for oral problems through the delivery of oral health services.

This month, PHO with the Abra Dental Chapter have proposed to conduct a motorcade to promote Dental Health Month, information dissemination, intensified campaign via radio plugs, strengthening oral health awareness to pregnant women, distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste to kinder pupils, application of fluoride varnish to pediatric patients, and campaigning against illegal dentists by educating college students in the province.

Dr. John Pacis, of the Abra Provincial Hospital cited some food rich in calcium and fluoride to keep our teeth strong and protected from decay. Sources of calcium are milk, cheese, leafy green vegetables, and beans. Sources of fluoride are tea, carrots, and dried fruits.

The Abra Dental Clinic is open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm, Mondays-Fridays. Regular tooth extraction is free while P200 will be charged for hard to extract teeth. Pasta and cleaning charge is at P200.
